The emotional, social and physical development of children has a direct impact on the overall development of the country. Understanding the status of children is thus of immense importance.
India is the second most populous country of the world where children constitute about 39% of the population of the country and, since children are the future of the country hence, their education is of primary importance for any every nation.

The primary education in India is divided into two parts, namely Lower Primary (Class I-IV) and Upper Primary (Middle school, Class V-VIII). The Indian government lays emphasis on primary education (Class I-VIII) also referred to as elementary education, to children aged 6 to 14 years old.

These are India’s most literate states — ranked:
1. Kerala
Literacy rate: 96.2%
Kerala has been the most literate state in India for a few years now. However, in Kerala also, male literacy (97.4%) is more than the female literacy rate (95.2%).
2. Delhi
Literacy rate: 88.7%
Delhi has emerged as the second most literate state/union territory in the country. In Delhi, 93.7% male population is literate in comparison to the 82.4% literate female population.
3.Uttarakhand
Literacy rate: 87.6%
After Kerala and Delhi, Uttarakhand is the third literate state in India. In Uttarakhand, male literacy stands at 94.3%, whereas female literacy is 80.7%.
4.Himachal Pradesh
Literacy rate: 86.6%
Like every other state, Himachal Pradesh too has a wide gap between male literacy and female literacy. The male literacy rate in Himachal Pradesh is 92.9%, and the female literacy rate is 80.5%
5.Assam
Literacy rate: 85.9%
In Assam, the male literacy rate is 90.1%, whereas the female literacy rate is 81.2%.
